Jason Curry Interview w/ Howard Garfinkel, Pee Wee Kirkland, and Joe "The Destroyer" Hammond - Pt. 1

It takes greatness to recognize greatness. That's why Big Apple Basketball President, Jason Curry, sat down and talked with basketball legends Joe "The Destroyer" Hammond, Pee Wee Kirkland, and Howard Garfinkel about The Basketball Tournament (TBT) and who they would pick if they were playing for $1,000,000.

Overseas Elite Grabs The Basketball Tournament $1,000,000 Prize

Word to the wise, if you want to win a $1,000,000 in a summer basketball tournament you need to do two things: 1) Have a signed recording artist cheer for your team on the bench, preferably Maybach Music Group's Stalley, and 2) You better hit the glass hard. One more rebound, hard.

By winning in the rebound column by one board, Overseas Elite defeated Team 23, 67 - 65 to win The Basketball Tournament $1,000,000 grand prize. Former St. John's standout, D.J. Kennedy, scored 24 points and former Texas University point guard, Myck Kabongo, pulled in a team-high 6 rebounds to lead a cast of former college standout players (including Travis Bader, NCAA all time 3-Points Leader) playing abroad on Overseas Elite.

Davin White scored 34 points for Team 23.

Team 23 is a Arizona based team comprised of fearless local ball players who defied the odds to beat the 2013-14 NBA D-League champs in the semis and to make it to the championship game.

It was a weekend filled with basketball royalty in attendance, from playground legends Pee Wee Kirkland, and Joe "The Destroyer" Hammond, to Five Star Basketball Camp co-founder, Howard Garfinkel, and former NBA player and current sportscaster, Len Elmore. ESPN was there to broadcast the semi-finals and the championship games live, from the historic Rose Hill Gymnasium in Fordham University.

TBT is a basketball tournament unlike any other in existence. It's a open application, 5-on-5, single elimination, winner-takes-all pro-am basketball tournament with a grand prize of $1,000,000. This years tournmanent featured past NBA players, past NCAA basketball stars, current professional overseas players, as well as former Olympian, Pops Mensah Bonsu. TBT includes 97 teams across four regions, Northeast, Midwest, South, West. Master Scientist - Grand Hank at the DELL Music Center

You ever hear the one about the molecule that walks into a bar? It's funny, the only problem is that I don't remember the joke. Science was always one of my favorite classes, but since I've been out of school, my technologically hypnotized life has lead me to believe that I don't need science. So what I've calculated is, technology makes us dependent, not independent.

For decades Master Scientist, Grand Hank, has been spreading the importance of science in our daily lives. Grand Hank blends Science and Hip-Hop to educate all ages about the fun of Science. He's performed on numerous TV shows (The Science Lab Of Grand Hank & The Science of Philadelphia) and in front of live audiences to captivate the young and the old. After years of touring Grand Hank is back home in Philly and has partnered with The School District of Philadelphia for a back-to-school extravaganza, FREE for the whole family. On Wednesday, August 19 at 6pm the Dell Music Center will open for a night of family fun, with lots of music, games, and best of all -  Science! Free book bags while supplies last. Grand Hank's show starts at 7pm and features the turntable wizard DJ Marty Geez.

For more information visit and follow Grand Hank on Social Media to keep up with all that's happening on his scientifically musical journey.

Big Apple Basketball Upset at TBT $1,000,000 Tourney

Big Apple Basketball suffered a gut wrenching defeat in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) over the weekend.

Big Apple Basketball, ranked #2 in TBT's Northeast Region, was upset by #15 Sideline Cancer 70 to 67 in the 3rd round of the tournament. Down by 22 points in the first half, Big Apple Basketball fought their way back into the game but fell just short of making a dazzling comeback. Team leaders include: Former Los Angeles Laker, Derrick Caracter, 17 points and 3 rebounds and; 23rd ranked NCAA all time assists leader, Chaz Williams, 16 points. The gutty team performance was inspirational to watch, but wasn't enough to take down Sideline Cancer, who advance to the Super 17 held in Chicago, July 23-25.

It was a great run for the Big Apple Basketball team who won their second round game on Saturday afternoon against fellow New York City team Basketball City (#14 in the Northeast Region). Michael Glover hit the game winning layup at the buzzer to help his team advance to the next round. Without Smush Parker, Sam Young, or Russel Robinson playing this weekend, Big Apple Basketball hoped that the buzzer winning shot by Glover would create the much needed spark for a deep tournament run. Unfortunately the team came up short, but Lance Goulbourne, Jeff Xavier, Shane Gibson, Garrett Stutz, Derrick Caracter, Chaz Williams, and Antoine Agudio played fearless this weekend.

TBT is a basketball tournament unlike any other in existence. It's a open application, 5-on-5, single elimination, winner-takes-all pro-am basketball tournament with a grand prize of $1,000,000. The tournmanent features past NBA players and current professional overseas players. Philadelphia University hosted the Northeast Regionals of The Basketball Tournament for the second year in a row, which shows that Philadelphia Basketball is alive and well and continues to influence the culture of basketball around the globe.

Higher Than 7 Covers Big Apple Basketball at TBT $1,000,000 Tourney

The Basketball Tournament (TBT) is a basketball tournament unlike any other in existence. It's a open application, 5-on-5, single elimination, winner-takes-all pro-am basketball tournament with a grand prize of $1,000,000.

This years tournament features 97 teams from four national regions (Northeast, Midwest, South, and West). The winner from each region will compete in the final four in New York City and the championship game will be televised live on ESPN on August 2nd.

Higher Than 7 will provide media coverage for the Big Apple Basketball (BAB) team, a heavy favorite in this year's tournament. BAB is a nonprofit dedicted to helping kids achieve their goals through basketball and this year it’s unfinished business for Jason Curry, director of BAB, and the team, who were a 2014 entrant that nearly reached TBT's inaugral championship game. Curry has used his deep connections in NYC basketball circles to bring back Smush Parker, Russell Robinson and Lance Goulbourne and add former NBA forwards Derrick Caracter and Sam Young. BAB is one of several NYC-based squads looking to win the TBT $1,000,000 purse on August 2.

Fans can look forward to seeing former NBA players as well as current overseas players compete in a pro-level tournament with march madness energy.

For the second year in a row TBT will kick off it's Northeast regionals at Philadelphia University in Philadelphia, PA.

Tickets for each game can be purchased here.
